pH – Power and Potential
Depending on several factors, pH stands for power of hydrogen, potential for hydrogen or sometimes, power potential of hydrogen.
Acidity and alkalinity are measured on a scale of pH values, by number. The scale is between 1 and 14, with a pH value of 7 being neutral. Any substance that measures between 1 and 6.9 is acidic, with number 1 being most acidic. A measurement between 7.1 and 14 will be an alkaline one, with 14 being the most alkaline.
At either end of the scale – number 1 or number 14 – both substances are very strong and are definitely not to be drunk!
Balanced Alkalinity is Ideal
However, our bodies have a tendency to seek out alkalinity. The ideal pH value of the human body is 7.3 – 7.45. Our modern diet tends to be acidic. Sugary, fatty, processed foods; alcohol and meat (especially processed meat) are all acidic. If your body becomes too acidic, it cannot thrive in a completely healthful state.
Here’s another thing: although age, gender and fitness levels can cause fluctuations, your body is around 45 – 75% water. Your organs, brain and muscles are composed of up to 79% water.
Knowing this, it brings the message home, loud and clear. The water we drink needs to be pH balanced, clean and safe. It’s literally what we’re made of!
