Health and Longevity from an Alkaline Diet

If you want that boundless energy, a healthy and leaner body, relief from inflammation and slower aging, choosing an alkaline diet is key. Many people are looking for an alkaline state rather than an acidic one, but what are the main benefits of doing so?  Why choose alkaline food and water?

The body is so finely tuned in that if one is eating acidic foods such as refined flours, sugars, oils and junk foods the body can adjust. There are far more benefits of alkaline foods vs. acidic foods, but that doesn’t mean that all acidic foods are bad for you. The Western diet or Standard American Diet is an example of eating mostly acidic. However, if one is consistently eating these acidic foods, it becomes an invitation to less than optimal health including, fatigue, poor brain health, inflammation, infection, obesity, and disease.

Choosing an alkaline way of eating is extremely healthful and can be done quite easily. As a rule of thumb, choosing 80 percent alkaline foods (veggies and legumes) plus water (pH is quite an important measurement of water) and 20 percent acidic foods (meat and carbs) is the way to go, but small shifts have a powerful impact.

What is the difference between an alkaline body and an acidic body?  The difference between acidic and alkaline foods is what they do inside the body. On a scale of 0 to 14, a compound is acidic if the pH level is anywhere between 0 to 7, or alkaline if its pH level falls within 7 to 14. A pH level of 7 indicates that a compound is neutral.

The benefits of an alkaline diet that includes alkaline water are powerful:

  • Eat more organic greens, alkaline water, healthy fats, nuts, seeds, green drinks, and minerals. Eat less junk food, sugar, trans-fats, excess dairy, excess meat, no processed foods or soda. When you do, you will see your health and energy soar!
  • You help optimize your immune system, which benefits from an alkaline state, not an acidic state.
  • Many diseases and other health conditions are also found with extreme levels of pH in the body. Metabolism, digestion, and oxygen absorption are all affected by the pH balance of the body.
  • Improved energy levels
  • Slower aging
  • Healthier gums and teeth
  • Weight Management
  • Reduced Pain and Inflammation

What are examples of acidic foods?

  • Soft Drinks or Sodas
  • Energy Drinks
  • Tap Water
  • Processed Grains
  • Junk Food
  • Sugar
  • Unhealthy Fats
  • Excess Dairy
  • Excess Meat
  • Processed Meats

What are examples of alkaline foods?

  • Swiss Chard
  • Dandelion Greens
  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Almonds
  • Avocado
  • Cucumber
  • Beets
  • Olives
  • Flax Seed
  • Figs
  • Berries
  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon
  • Sea Salt

Remember:  Too much acidity can lead to a general feeling of ill health, while too much alkalinity can lead to gastrointestinal issues or irritations and why it is important to know your pH.  Track the pH levels of your urine and/or saliva on a daily basis with inexpensive strips. This is how you can determine if you are acidic or alkaline.

Slowly adding alkaline water and foods to your daily diet is a lifestyle change that will have a powerful impact upon your health, now and in the future.
